Window and Light Treatments using shoji screens and ceiling treatments are shown on this page.  In the traditional Japanese home, the ceiling has often been ignored for utilitarian reasons.  Dramatic ceilings can still be created using bamboo poles and wicker latticework, work, as seen in the photo at the bottom of this page.  By working with natural lighting and window and patio treatments, shoji screen designs have been employed to create dramatic entranceways to patios, rooftops and balconies.

The shoji provides both light filtering, visual effects of light and dark and privacy.

Shoji styled doors leading from one room to another provide a translucent, light filtering effect between rooms.
